Blu-ray split menu addition

Post by Bruce » Thu Sep 20, 2018 4:04 am

Greetings all and congratulations for a truly superb utility!

From https://www.PCWorld.com/article/2933478 ... years.html: "Write-once BD-R HTL (High to Low, i.e., reflectivity, as in bright to dark) is rated to last 100 to 150 years."

And M-Disc (http://www.MDisc.com) is rated to endure for 1 K years.

I don't know of any other cyber data media of any kind which provides such long reliable endurance with decent density, so it seems key for archiving important data. And 100 to 150 year BD-R HTL is cheap and very widely available.

So I suggest adding Blu-ray capacity selections to the "Split" dropdown menu in Keka's main window. Including 25, 50, 100, and 128 GB selections.

I'm ignorant as to the precise capacities which should be coded but assume the Blu-ray standards state them clearly.

I hope some interest in this improvement develops! HDDs and SSDs just aren't reliable or enduring enough for truly important data, so Blu-ray seems to be our only decent density option. So I suspect many people would really appreciate a Split menu which supports Blu-ray capacity options.

Blu-ray split menu addition

I tried the Bd 25 split and I am unable to burn them to BD-R. Says "There's not enough free space on this disc:
23.32 GB are needed, 23.31 GB are available." This is the file info. 25,025,314,816 bytes (25.03 GB on disk) Burning as ISO 9660 Toast Titanium 15.1

camoguy, the BD 25 option is set to 25,025,314,816 so if the file info is correct it worked as expected. This is the size by definition for a BD. Are you able to get a bytes size of your BD? You can also specify a size in Keka manually, just write 23.31g or 23.3g to be safer.

Scalla, is up to you, the number will be always converted to bytes. Yo can be as precise as you want with the decimals.
