Segmenting archives - uploading

Hi,

I'm new here and I have a question:

When I segment an archive, is it possible to start uploading segments that are already finished compressing or do all segments at the end of the compression process get some kind of information without that it will be impossible to extract the archive?

Thanks and I hope I expressed correctly, what I'm trying to do...

Best
Hans

Hi Hans,

Only the first part (001) will change when the compression is done. So, i.e., you can upload part 2 (002) as soon as part 3 (003) starts, but just upload part 1 (001) when all the process has finished.

Hope this helps :)

Thank you! Next time I know the correct procedure.

I've just taken the leap and uploaded all the segments as they finished, even segment 1 before the whole compression was done. Once I downloaded it on the second machine I was able to extract the whole archive without any errors. The only difference to the regular way the extraction works was, that Keka extracted the compressed files to a folder "foo.zip" (foo obviously just being a placeholder) instead of directly as the folder that was compressed.

Anyway, was able to transfer 30GB in minimal time this way and it worked.

Next time I'll wait with segment one.

Thanks and best
Hans
