Is file splitting faster than compression?

I just compressed a 78.4 MB pdf and it only reduced to 78.1 MB
My object is to create small enough parts to attach to emails, where I have a message limit of about 36 MB including the msg overhead.
So it might be faster if there was an option to merely split files into specified size chunks, instead of also running a compression algorithm.
Didn't the original pkZip (from the 1990's) have such an option?

You can just set the method to "Store", that way it only creates volumes from your files, no compression.
