tar.gz tarball contains full file system path

Post by chris.alme » Thu Feb 21, 2013 4:29 pm

Say I have a folder named "archive" that I would like to create a tar.gz tarball. Dead simple to do - drag "archive" to keka and "archive.tgz" is created. Unfortunately during extraction the directory structure created starts from the file system root and NOT relative to "archive"s original location:

Users/<username>/Downloads/archive/ <files>

Instead of

archive/ <files>

I cannot seem to find a way to exclude the fully qualified path from the created tarball, is the possible?

I'm working to solve this issue. It happens only when using gnutar instead of p7zip.

Thanks for the reply! Is it possible to configure the .tgz to use p7zip instead of gnutar? Looking for a workaround in the current version if possible.

I've created this ticket: http://trac.kekaosx.com/ticket/76

For the next version I'm going to use an option (not in GUI) to use p7zip instead of gnutar.
Note that using p7zip you'll get an intermediate tar file in the first extraction.

I've detected the issue and it's fixed now. The issue is in the compression, not in the extraction. So files already compressed will show the full path anyway.

Excellent, just tried it out and works fantastic! Any idea on timing of the 1.0.4 release?
