Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce myself as a new member from England, UK.

I’ve only had my copy of Keka (purchased from App Store) for a day, but I’ve been using my Apple MacBook Pro for about 6 years now.
This is the first time I’ve needed to use a program like Keka and I’m really looking forward to finding out how to use it.

I would like some help please on a problem I’ve got extracting Volkswagen Satellite Navigation map updates.

First of all, could someone let me know where I should post my question?

Thanks, ZipPeter :keka:

Hi! You're very welcome here ZipPeter!

Usually the best way to get support in on https://issues.keka.io, but you can ask here too.

What is the problem while extracting those maps? Can you share (privately if you prefer) a link to the files?

Salut!

Hello aone, thank you for the welcome, it's great to hear from you.

Thanks for that support link but I'm happy to use the forum to share my problem.

The file is : DiscoverMedia2_EU1_1310_V11.7z-4.download

I thought that if I right-clicked on it in Finder I could copy and paste it here - that didn't work as you can see!
Why does Finder not let me copy and paste it?

This is embarrassing, but would you mind telling me how I can send the file to you/post it on this forum please?

When I click "Add files" below, I can see the file I want to send to you but it is greyed out?

In the meantime, the error message I get when trying to extract the file in Keka using drag-and-drop is:

"Keka Extraction of 'DiscoverMe ..... ..... V11.7z-4.download' failed.
Error code 2 using 'p7zip'
Fatal error"

The ".download" means that file is yet to be completely downloaded. While Safari downloads a file it creates a bundle structure with the "download" extension. This is really a folder with some files inside, one of them being "DiscoverMedia2_EU1_1310_V11.7z" that is the proper compressed file. Also the "-4" at the name makes me think you tried 4 times to download this file.

So resuming, if you drop a ".download" folder to Keka it will fail. Also you cannot upload a folder to the web, that is why it shows greyed out.

You need to download the 7Z file properly so it can be extracted.

Hope this helps :keka:

Hello aone, that makes a lot of sense to me, thanks.

“ … Also the "-4" at the name makes me think … “
You’re right. I’ve tried many times to download the maps I want. I keep getting a “Bad Gateway” or similar error message about half an hour into the download. Sometimes I get no error message, so I assume the download has been successful. It obviously hasn’t. Other VW owners have experienced the same problem using Windows. So it’s not just me. It’s disappointing that VW can release stuff like this which are unstable.

The link below is the VW website I’m using:

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/how ... es/sat-nav

If you click on the first link theres you see “1.” it gets you to the map page. I’m trying download any of the Europe - Bundle 1 maps (as long as its got UK in it!).

I’ll try again to get a good clean download that Keka recognises.

Just a quick point, you say “Also you cannot upload a folder to the web, that is why it shows greyed out.”
Yes but I’m trying to upload a zip FILE aren’t, I not a folder?

Thanks, ZipPeter
p.s. I could buy the VW map update on a SD card for about €100. The cost is not a problem, but doing it myself is much more satisfying and fun, right :-)

ZipPeter, sorry I'm indeed on the go.

I'm downloading the DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1310_V11.7z file right now. It's a big one, about 14GB, will tell you if it fails.

Just noticed you tried another version which is about 7GB, downloading that one instead.

Just downloaded and extracted the file without any issue. Try to fully download it :)
